Good questions.Thoughtful answers.
Whether this is your first chiropractic visit or you have been coming for years, you deserve clear answers. Here are a few things patients often ask me.
Schedule Your First VisitWhat should I wear to a chiropractic appointment?
Comfortable clothing that lets you move easily is ideal. Athletic wear works well, but everyday clothing is usually fine, too.
How long is the first appointment?
Plan for approximately 45 minutes. We will talk about what brought you in, review your health history, perform an appropriate examination, explain the findings, and discuss your options. If appropriate, treatment may begin during your first visit. If your concerns call for a different provider or additional evaluation, I will discuss that with you.
Do you accept walk-ins, or do I need an appointment?
Appointments are strongly preferred so I can reserve time for you and minimize your wait. You can book online or call the office to ask about availability.
Do you accept insurance?
Leonard Chiropractic is primarily a private-pay practice and does not routinely bill traditional commercial health insurance. We will explain fees before care begins. We also provide certain Medicare Part B-covered chiropractic services when coverage requirements are met. Medicare generally covers medically necessary manual manipulation of the spine to correct a subluxation, subject to its rules; examinations, many therapies, and maintenance care are generally not covered. Coverage and your financial responsibility depend on your individual circumstances, so please call if you have questions.
What is the popping sound during an adjustment?
The sound is commonly called joint cavitation. It can occur when pressure changes within a joint cause a gas cavity to form. It does not mean bones are breaking, and a popping sound is not required for an adjustment to be useful.
Will cracking my knuckles cause arthritis?
Research has not established that habitual knuckle cracking causes hand osteoarthritis. If a joint is painful, swollen, or unstable, however, it is worth having it evaluated rather than repeatedly forcing it to pop.
How many visits will I need?
That depends on your symptoms, examination findings, goals, and response to care. We will discuss a proposed plan, check your progress, and adjust the approach as needed. I do not want you committing to an arbitrary number of visits before we understand what makes sense for you.
Do you offer wellness or maintenance care?
Yes. Some patients choose to schedule occasional visits after an initial concern has improved. We can discuss your goals and preferences, the limits of the evidence for preventive treatment, and whether ongoing care makes sense for you. Maintenance visits are generally not covered by Medicare.
Let us start with a conversation.
You do not need to know which treatment you need before your first visit.
